Predictive index: venturer

A diagram of the Predictive Index personality profiles

Once Venturers identify an opportunity to push the organization forward, it becomes an irresistible magnet. Venturers are constantly exploring and moving past boundaries. They're strong-willed, goal-oriented, and focused on making an impact at work. Expect them to be self-motivated and innovative individuals who tackle new challenges with enthusiasm.

Leadership style: leader/coach

The leader/coach style centers around the leader acting as a mentor and facilitator, guiding designers to unlock their full potential rather than directing every move. This approach prioritizes individual and team growth, active learning, and support, fostering a collaborative and developmental atmosphere where team members are empowered to set their own goals, receive feedback, and develop new skills.

Key Characteristics

  • Personalized Development: The leader tailors coaching and feedback to each team member’s strengths, career goals, and developmental needs.
  • Empowerment and Collaboration: Decision-making is shared among stakeholders. The leader encourages designers to take ownership of their projects, contribute ideas, and collaborate to solve problems.
  • Growth Mindset and Continuous Learning: Setbacks are treated as learning opportunities, and regular feedback sessions promote self-improvement.
  • Active Listening and Guidance: Rather than issuing directives, the coach asks guiding questions, encourages reflection, and provides resources for growth.

Advantages Over Other Leadership Styles

Command & Control Style (Direct, Dictate)

  • Less hierarchy, more collaboration
  • Greater creative ownership
  • Higher engagement and satisfaction

Transactional (Reward, Punish)

  • Moves beyond carrot/stick
  • Encourages intrinsic motivation
  • Builds stronger, more resilient teams

Visionary/Transformational (Inspire, Set Vision)

  • Provides practical tools and support to achieve vision, not just inspiration

Democratic (Group input)

  • Focuses deeper on individual development, not just consensus-building
